Hossa National Park
Time Traveller's Hike – Journey to the Stone Age
Stone Age Adventure in Hossa National Park
Step back in time and follow the footsteps of the first people who lived in northern Finland over 5,000 years ago. This full-day private adventure combines hiking, history, forest landscapes, and a scenic boat trip in Hossa National Park.
Your journey begins with a boat cruise on Julma-Ölkky Canyon Lake, one of Finland's most spectacular canyon lakes. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs rising over 50 metres above crystal-clear water, you'll experience landscapes shaped by the Ice Age. From the boat, you'll also see another prehistoric rock painting hidden high on the canyon wall—visible only from the water.
The adventure continues with a guided hike through the peaceful forests to Värikallio Rock Paintings, one of Finland's most important prehistoric sites. Maybe those Stone Age hunters and gatherers walked the same trails. At the towering cliff rising above the lake, you'll discover mysterious paintings of elks, shamans, and symbolic figures that have survived for more than 5,000 years.
During the hike, your local guide will share fascinating stories about Stone Age life, ancient hunting cultures, the traditions of northern peoples, and the deep connection between humans and nature in the Arctic.
During the day, we'll enjoy a traditional outdoor lunch cooked over the campfire, followed by freshly brewed Finnish campfire coffee.
This private experience offers a relaxed pace with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, listen to stories, and take photographs.
