Iivaara fell is a distant, quiet, magical place far away from everything. The name Iivaara means dark (Ii) + fell (vaara). It is the highest fell in southern Kuusamo and from the summit you can see all the way to the horizon. Sit under silent snowy spruce trees and taste some snow, see the fells of Russia in the east and listen to the arctic silence. How long is the transfer?
The transfer takes about 40 minutes from Kuusamo and about 1 hour from Ruka each way. The hike itself takes about 4 hours.

Do I need snowshoeing experience?
No. We take it slow with plenty of breaks and your guide chooses the route and pace for your group.

What equipment is provided?
We provide snowshoes or ice grips (slip guards), depending on the route, and poles.

What should I wear?

What do we eat? Can you take special diets into account?
We enjoy a trail meal and warm drinks at a campfire, and our food always features plenty of local ingredients and northern flavours. Special diets are no problem: please tell us at least 3 days in advance.
