Frequently Asked Questions
Where can we go on a full-day private tour from Ruka?
A 7–9 hour day gives us a much wider choice of destinations. Depending on the season and conditions, we can explore Hossa National Park, Salla National Park, Korouoma Canyon, Syöte National Park, Oulanka National Park or Riisitunturi National Park.
We can also use the full day for a longer hiking route closer to Ruka.
Can we visit Hossa National Park from Ruka?
Yes. Hossa can be visited as a full-day private experience from Ruka. Because of the travelling distance, we recommend the 7–9 hour option so that there is enough time to explore the destination as well as travel there and back.
Can we visit Korouoma Canyon from Ruka?
Yes. Korouoma is possible as a full-day private tour from Ruka. It is particularly well known for its canyon landscape and frozen waterfalls in winter. The route and timing depend on the season and trail conditions.
Can we visit Salla or Syöte from Ruka?
Yes. Both Salla and Syöte are possible destinations for a 7–9 hour private day. Your guide can help you decide whether the travelling time and available time outdoors suit what you would like from the day.
Does a full-day tour mean a difficult hike?
No. A full day does not necessarily mean walking all day. We can plan an active hiking day or combine shorter walks with photography, viewpoints, nature observation and time around a campfire.
The route and pace are adapted to your group.
How much of the day is spent driving?
This depends on the destination. Riisitunturi and Oulanka are considerably closer to Ruka than Hossa, Salla, Korouoma or Syöte.
The booked 7–9 hours includes transportation from and back to Ruka or Kuusamo. If you tell us where you would like to go, we can recommend a suitable duration before booking.
Do we need to choose the destination in advance?
Not necessarily. You are welcome to request a particular national park or destination, but you can also leave the choice to your guide. Weather, snow, trail conditions and the season can make one destination a better choice than another.
